Nebraska remained unbeaten Wednesday night, but the Huskers’ 76-66 win over Washington came with a moment of concern. Forward Braden Frager, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, left the game in the first half with an ankle injury and did not return. Frager was later seen on the bench in a walking boot. After the game, coach Fred Hoiberg said the injury appeared to be a sprain. Coach Hoiberg confirmed on Thursday that Frager is day-to-day, a best-case scenario for No. 7 Nebraska. “We’ll do everything we can to get him back as quickly as possible,” Hoiberg said. “But everybody has to be ready.” Nebraska (19-0, 8-0 Big Ten) leaned into a next-man-up mentality for more than 35 minutes and didn’t miss a beat, extending the nation’s longest winning streak to 23 games. “I just told the guys in the locker room everybody’s got to be ready,” Hoiberg said. “Braden’s given us a lot on both ends of the floor, and everybody has to step up in his absence. I thought guys did that tonight.” If Frager misses time, Nebraska will rely even more heavily on Pryce Sandfort, who continues to deliver at a high level. Sandfort scored a game-high 23 points, his third consecutive 20-point performance, while shooting 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Sandfort has averaged 17 points per game this season and is shooting nearly 42 percent from beyond the arc. Over the past three games, he has connected on 57 percent of his attempts from distance. “I give a lot of credit to my teammates,” Sandfort said. “They’re getting me the ball in the right spots. The screens have been great, and Coach is drawing up good sets. It’s probably the best my shot has ever felt.” Nebraska also got contributions across the lineup. Sam Hoiberg finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Rienk Mast added 12 points and Jamarques Lawrence scored 11. Jared Garcia and Cale Jacobsen provided key minutes as the rotation adjusted following Frager’s injury. As a team, the Huskers shot 50.9 percent from the field, marking their third straight game shooting better than 50 percent. Nebraska will face a road test Saturday at Minnesota. A win would move the Huskers to 20-0, the best start in program history. #cornhuskers #huskers #huskersmbb #nebraska #nebraskabasketball #fredhoiberg
