Budget 2025 | DA vows to take VAT hike issue to court: Willie Aucamp

The Democratic Alliance leaders are locked in a budget crisis talk this morning. This comes after the party issued a statement saying it will file papers in the Western Cape High Court to challenge Parliament's passing of the 2025/26 National Budget. This comes after the National Assembly adopted the 2025 Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposal as tabled by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, by a slight majority. A total of 194 votes were cast in favour, while 182 were against. The adopted framework includes recommendations that Treasury must be given 30 days to come up with alternatives to tax hikes, while scrapping the VAT hike and to adjust personal income tax brackets.
