As past president of the Spanish Society for Surgery of the Hand (SECMA) (2005-2007), Secretary-General of the European Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) (2005-2008) and President of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) (2019- present), and author of 78 book chapters, 162 scientific articles, and 460 conferences on various aspects of his specialty, anatomy, biomechanics and treatment of carpal and upper extremity pathologies, he is one of the most respected hand & wrist surgeons of our era. He is also one of the founders of the Kaplan Institute of Barcelona, responsible for the promotion of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery and training of hundreds of fellows worldwide. He is a coordinator of doctoral students of the upper extremity, and continues to work in the biomechanics laboratory of the upper limb of the Faculty of Medicine of the Bellaterra campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​collaborating with “Valle de Hebrón Research Institute” (VHIR), and the chair of anatomy at the University of Barcelona.
