This week you'll need to buckle up, it's a LONG one. A week or so ago, we had a GENTLE INTRODUCTION to the DATIVE. This week we go into a bit more detail. We narrow down the use of the dative to 3 main functions: recipients (indirect object); certain verbs; certain prepositions. In the textbook we go into a couple of other uses (idiomatic phrases, and with some adjectives). 00:00 Intro 00:28 Cases 01:48 Why Cases? 02:53 When and why do need to use Dative? 03:50 RECIPIENTS 11:00 CERTAIN VERBS 16:35 PREPOSITIONS that use the DATIVE 21:35 WHERE have we met this before? 24:30 LOCATION 25:30 Tschüss In case you're wondering what I say at the beginning, the video starts with the following: ""schön, dass Sie wieder da sind. Nun, das Ende naht, oder anders gesehen treten wir mit jedem Tag dem Ende immer näher. So oder so bin ich Billy Badger und das ist Bausteine eins." Nice to see you here again. Well, the end is approaching, or alternatively with every day we are getting ever closer to the end. Either way, I'm Billy Badger and this is Bausteine eins" This video is part of a 12-week video series for a Beginners' German at the University of Tasmania. They introduce the content for the week and provide a very brief introduction to the main grammatical structure covered in the relevant week. They are accompanied by a textbook Bausteine eins, written by me, Dr Billy Badger. Check out our new Bausteine Shop: https://bausteine-eins-shop.fourthwal... We've been living in Australia on and off since 2000. Together with my Austrian wife, Christine, and our daughter, we are a German-speaking family. Pronunciation varies throughout the German-speaking world, much as it does in the English-speaking world. My English usage is influenced by Australian, British and Irish usage; my German by central German origins [Bonn] and the overwhelming influence of my Austrian wife :) If you‘re interested in the Austrian Dialekt, I can recommend this video • So geht österreichisches Deutsch / Au...
