What do you do? Store-bought plants give you speed and convenience. Sowing Seeds give you savings and variety.” “Let’s talk about store-bought vegetable plants first—the good and the bad. The biggest advantage is speed. These plants already have a head start, which means quicker harvests and less waiting. They’re perfect for beginners, short growing seasons, or if you’re planting last minute. You can see exactly what you’re buying, skip the germination stage, and overall they take less early effort. But there are downsides. Store-bought plants cost more, you’re limited in variety, and many are root-bound before you even get them home. They can suffer transplant shock, may carry pests or diseases, and are often treated with chemicals. Plus, they’re not always suited to your local climate, tend to have weaker root systems, and you have less control over how they were grown. Now let’s talk about growing vegetables from seed. Starting from seed is much cheaper and gives you access to hundreds of varieties you’ll never find in stores. Seed-grown plants usually develop stronger roots, adapt better to your climate, and you have full control over soil, water, and whether they’re organic. When direct-sown, there’s no transplant shock, and many gardeners find the process incredibly rewarding. That said, growing from seed takes more time and patience. Germination can fail, seedlings are delicate, and you’ll need more planning and attention early on. Sometimes extra equipment like grow lights is needed, weather can wipe out young plants, and it’s not always ideal for very short growing seasons. 👍 Don’t forget to like, subscribe, to follow the journey of my very first allotment plot in the UK. / @gabrielasgarden Chapters 00:52 Pro for shop bought 01:16 Pros for shop bought 01:43 Pros for seed sowing 01:58 Pros for shop bought 02:25 Pros for seed sowing 02:42 Pumpkin example 02:56 Cons for shop bought 03:15 COST plant vs seed 04:20 Pro for seed sowing
