In the Venturi arrangement, water from the river is drawn into the intake of a freeflow, high-velocity centrifugal jetting pump, which in turn is powered by a portable gasoline engine. An engine of several horsepower is usually used, resulting in the discharge of a large gallonage of water from the pump output at an extremely high rate of speed. A length of hose capable of withstanding high pressure (known commonly as “pressure hose") is connected to the output of the pump, which carries the water flow from the pump to an eduction device.
