And at the end of the day, that's on us," Campbell said of the loss, which likely ended Detroit's playoff hopes. "We did that. We're the ones who put ourselves in that position to where we had to try to score on the last play." "The defensive guy on the St. Brown touchdown, he’s the guy who initiated the contact on TeSlaa. He initiated the contact. It’s an awful call, and unfortunately it cost the Lions a win here and probably a playoff spot. So, yeah, this is atrocious right here." The Lions Talk is LIVE every Thursday at 12p ET / 12p CT! "At no point before, during, or after the incident did Mr. Kennedy use racial slurs or hate speech of any kind," the statement said. "The claims suggesting otherwise are untrue and are not supported by video evidence, eyewitness accounts, or any contemporaneous reporting. Despite reports in the media last night and today, Mr. Kennedy has not used such language during any interaction with Mr. Metcalf or any other players in the past. Lions fan involved in DK Metcalf incident denies using slurs Portrait of Richard SilvaRichard Silva The Detroit News Updated Dec. 22, 2025, 6:04 p.m. ET The fan involved in an incident with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf during Sunday's game at Ford Field has denied using "any racial, misogynistic, or hate-based slur" to prompt the interaction. Ryan Kennedy, a self-proclaimed Detroit Lions fan, denied using a slur in a statement released Monday afternoon from Head Murphy Law. The CBS broadcast of Sunday's contest — a 29-24 Steelers victory — showed Metcalf reaching into the crowd toward the end of the first half to grab the collar of Kennedy's shirt, say something to him and shove him back, with Metcalf's hand ending up near Kennedy's face. Metcalf, who was suspended two games by the NFL on Monday, has not directly spoken on the incident. DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson, on his podcast with former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe, said Sunday night he "got word" on the situation: "Obviously, I'm not condoning putting your hands on a fan or punching a fan, but he did call him a racial slur. He called him the N-word, and he did call his mom a c---," Johnson said. "And I think, with those words being exchanged and the fan saying that, I think that's where the action occurred, where he threw — I think he threw a punch, I'm not sure if he connected or whatever. But he did call him the N-word, and he called his mom a c---." Johnson said he spoke to "a reliable source who wears No. 4." That is Metcalf's jersey number. "He called him the N-word and (his mother) the C-word," Johnson continued. "That's a bad combination, a bad combination, and it caused DK to react. I'm sure he (Metcalf) will have to deal with some discipline. You know how the NFL is, no matter what's said, they want you to be able to control yourself in that situation. But I understand. I understand." The statement from Head Murphy Law (specifically, from counsel Shawn H. Head and Sean P. Murphy), said, "these allegations are completely false."
