Aphira was founded in 2013. In 2014, Canadian government granted Aphria a license to produce and sell medical cannabis. Its first wholesale shipments were in April 2015. In December 2017, Aphria announced that Shoppers Drug Mart, a Canadian pharmacy, would sell its products online. In January 2018, Aphria agreed to take over Broken Coast Cannabis, a Vancouver Island based cannabis producer. In May 2018, Aphria reached a deal with Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits for that company to distribute Aphria's recreational cannabis products in Canada. Aphria is a main distributor of medical cannabis to Germany and has operations in over 10 additional countries outside of Canada. Aphria offers multiple products under a portfolio of recreational cannabis brands, including Good Supply, B!NGO, Solei, RIFF, and Broken Coast. In November 2020 Aphria acquired Sweet Water Brewing Company, one of the largest craft breweries in the USA. On December 15, 2020, Aphria conducted a reverse acquisition to merge with Tilray, which would create the largest multinational cannabis company by revenue. The chief executive officer (CEO) of Aphria, Irwin Simon, said that the merger purpose was to capture Tilray's business assets and public trading exposure in the United States. Irwin Simon was named as CEO and chairman of the board for the merged company, and Tilray CEO, Brendan Kennedy, will be a member of the board of directors. The merged companies will keep Tilray's name and trade under the Tilray stock symbol, TLRY, on the NASDAQ exchange. By combining assets, the Aphria-Tilray company will develop craft beer and cannabis-infused beverages in partnership with Anheuser-Busch Bev, and have branded hemp and cannabis products. This merger will create a new powerhouse in the pot industry, with an equity value of about $3.8 billion. Combined 12 months sale of Aphria and Tilray which is $688 million will be larger than the current industry leaders such as Curaleaf Holdings and Canopy Growth. According to some predictions, the world market potential for cannabis products is $42 billion by 2025. As you can see there is a great potential for growth for Aphria/Tilray in the near future. My thoughts about Aphria: Aphria or Tilray because that's how the new name is going to be is a much better company than Aurora. Main reason is that Aphria did not spend like crazy for acquisitions for the past 3 years like Aurora did. Aphria and Tilray togeder definitely will be in the leading pack of the cannabis industry companies and if legalization of marijuana becomes the law in US Aphria thanks to the Tilray will be positioned to benefit greatly by having access to the biggest cannabis market in the world. Personally I'll keep my shares for the long term because I like the fact that Aphria didn’t spend like crazy on acquisitions for the past couple of years. That shows financial discipline in the management of the company which I like very much and I’m really excited about the future of this company.
