COCHLEAR IMPLANT SURGERY TO HELP CHILDREN WHO ARE BORN DEAF_Prudent Media Goa

HoD- ENT, Goa Medical College, Dr Harish Goel has stated that Cochlear Implant is a small device which is surgically incorporated into skull bone and used for children who are deaf since birth. He has stated that once the device is implanted children get the perception of sound, and can hear. Stating that the device cost more than Rs 6 lakhs, Dr Goel has informed that government of India has started the ADIP scheme where the device is freely available and surgery is also done free. However, the surgery has to be conducted for children below 5-years-of age.
