From Tattooing to YouTube: Why I Believe in Making Bad Art

Hey y’all. On the drive to work, I figured it was time to talk a little about who I am and why this channel exists. I’m Matt. I’ve been an artist my whole life and a tattoo artist for the better part of 25 years. I’ve worked service jobs, chased illustration, bounced in and out of tattooing, lived through recessions, and somehow kept my head above water the whole time. I’ve seen tattooing at its lowest points, its biggest booms, and everything in between. Somewhere along the way, I stopped thinking of myself as an artist and started thinking of myself as just a tattooer. This channel is me fixing that. There are a million tutorials out there teaching you how to be good. Very few people tell you it’s okay to be bad first. That’s what I’m here for. This channel is about process, honesty, failure, learning in public, and embracing the suck until the suck stops sucking quite as much.
