The peace deal was brokered by US President Donald Trump, who talked to both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in detail. But what is the US and President Trump getting out of the ceasefire deal? Trump says his aim is to end war, and for peace to prevail. But he is also negotiating a minerals deal with Zelensky — to get Ukrainian rare earths for the US. Another aspect could be Trump's attempt at making inroads in Russia — and trying to disrupt Moscow's amicable relations with China. And, if Trump's NSA Mike Waltz is to be believed, the US President is also "bound to win" the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. But any perks for the US will come only if the ceasefire holds — which currently appears to be teetering, given the fresh drone strikes between Kyiv and Moscow. This is also because of the absence of a clear roadmap to how peace will ultimately be achieved in the region. In this situation, will Trump be able to succeed in securing a complete ceasefire?
