What are the barriers to Media Development? | Lecture in Hindi / Urdu

Before starting the discussion on Barriers to Media Development, we will discuss the basic concepts of media and then barriers and after that we will discuss all types of barriers to media development in detail. So, The mean of communicating through the use of technology to send and receive messages is known as media. Like Print Media, Electronic Media, Social and Digital Media. When we increase the quantity and improve the quality of available media sources then it is called as media development. In short, In the sense of media development, we improve the standard of news and other media contents to meet the needs of audiences. Now we will shortly discuss the media barriers, Any hurdle or obstacle that inhibits media from being developed. Generally there are six types of barriers which we discuss below. 1. Physical Barriers 2. Cultural Barriers 3. Economic Barriers 4. Governmental Barriers 5. Media Related Barriers 6. Technological Barriers 1. Physical Barriers: Physical Barriers include the geographical location and size of the region. Geography can be an obstacle, long distance between media centres and audience can cause difficulty in gathering and providing of news. Beside this, quality of roads, climate, soil and trees etc can also create this difficulty. Here, size is also a physical barrier, For example, Russia has 11 Time Zones due to its larger size. So, it’s a big barrier to media development. 2. Cultural Barriers: Illiteracy, Multiligualism and Reliance on Inter personal communication are the cultural barriers to media development. As we know that illiteracy influences attitude and beliefs, In this way opinion leaders play with the minds of people. If we talk about multilingualism, as we know that Pakistan has six official languages including four provincial languages and Pakistan Television Corporation Limited is broadcasting in all these languages but it is dificult to transmit all messages in every language. So, it is also a barrier to media development.Now we will talk about another cultural barrier. Sometimes, It occurs in rural communities of Middle Eastern or African Countries, where tribe or family are important identifiers or in that communities where religion forbids media consumption or makes media unimportant and they only rely on inter personal communication. 3. Economic Barriers: Poverty, Inequality and Media Consolidation are the economic barriers to media development. Africa is very poor country and they have a lot of social and life security issues. That’s why Media Developemnt is not a priority there. As we that Australia is at high socio-economic level where all major newspapers are owned by two companies. At that place a journalist cannot move to a better place and hence the media development stopped to the the less competency in the market. 4. Governmental Barriers: Authoritarian Governement, Censorship, Licensing, Seizure,Traveling Restrictions, Tax Investigations, Jailing and Death Threats are the major and serious barriers to media development. All the above terms are easy to understand and these barriers are the keys to restrict the media outlets and working journalists by banning and punishing via different techniques. 5. Media Related Barriers: Lack of tranings of journalists and producers etc, lack of objectivity in news and their reporting, loss of credibility and ofcourse hidden adverting which is illegal, all these thing are the barriers to media development. All these barriers can be minimized with a little effort of media organizations. 6.
