Why did Italy attack Ethiopia in 1935? The incursion by Italian troops into Africa became known as the Second Italo-Ethiopian War, or the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, as it was named at the time. The conflict came without warning and was accompanied by no declaration of war. Rather, at 5 A.M. on October 3, 1935, Marshal Emilio De Bono led 200,000 Italian Army men into Ethiopia from the neighboring Italian territory of Eritrea.
