Dr Shesh Paul Vaid, a Veterinary Science graduate and Indian Police Service officer of 1986 batch, served as Director General of Jammu and Kashmir from December 2016 to September 2018. During his 33-year-long service, he held different positions from Dy SP to DGP in the Jammu and Kashmir Police. For his hardcore stand against an armed insurgency, he became a target of several terror attacks and had a narrow escape in an ambush in which he was injured on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway when he was DIG North Kashmir in March 1999. While serving as SP in Budgam and Jammu, followed by his postings as DIG, IGP, Additional DGP and DGP, he planned, executed a led a large number of counterterror operations.
