Hello everyone. As a pro drum tech it's my duty to stay on top of the latest, and greatest innovations in drum equipment. That way if one of my artists asks if a product works/fits their needs, I have information ready to go for them. In this video I review Soundhoops Drum Mics which they believe is the future for recording drums/micing drums live. After testing them during this video shoot, I can see why they feel that way. Soundhoops mics are special in that they are mounted inside the actual drum hoop. This eliminates the need for a stand or any type of clip to mic the drum leaving a clean clutter free look to the kit. These electret condenser mics are suspended in a rubberized web/grommet like shock mounts that slip into a hole in the hoop. The shock mount keeps the mics from rattling or moving about, and the hoops have proved to be quite sturdy. The hoops tuned right up with ease, and stayed in tune. An important factor for me as a tech. They are also quite durable which is another important facet for my tech work. They have 2 mic models. One for the snare, and one for the toms. They make hoops for pretty much all drum sizes/tension rod configurations. They also have a resonant snare hoops so you can mic the snare top, and bottom. I found these mics performed incredibly well at my two shoots capturing huge rock drum sounds with ease. They also blended seamlessly with my fave Heil OH's (PR30B's) Bass Drum Mic (PR48), and room mics (PR31 BW). I was truly impressed. Crisp snare sounds. Big rich powerful tom sounds. While I love the mics I love, these have been added to that list, and would be a great option for a drummer/audio engineer who wanted to clean up the look of the kit. They come with sturdy slim line cases that have tons of room to store the mic, yet pack away easily in a space concious manner.
