Mid of people coming out from the huge rainbow flag and cheering STORYLINE More than one thousand gay rights supporters marched in Hong Kong on Saturday in the annual gay pride march, calling for social equality and a legal ban on discrimination against homosexuals. The theme of this year's parade is: "For Queer. For Love. For Equality." People painted rainbow on their faces, waved rainbow flags and chanted slogans as they marched behind a large rainbow flag. Participants included members from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT), members from the Blessed Minority Christian Fellowship, locals and even supporters from mainland China. Shirley Lam, a Christian living in Hong Kong, said her religious beliefs made her reject homosexuality earlier in life. However she started to accept homosexuality when she met her girlfriend 11 years ago. She felt that lesbians were not generally accepted or offered equal rights in Hong Kong, even though it's considered a fairly open society. "The anti-voice is still very big, is still very conservative," said Lam. "But I would like to say the world is changing, actually younger generation is coming out. So, I hope society in Hong Kong will improve," she added. Amongst the gay rights supporters was Li Tao, a gay man from Nanjing, China, who came to Hong Kong to participate in his first gay pride parade. "I feel quite pressured." Tao spoke about being gay in China. "Generally, I would not let people know that I am a gay man." Tao said no such event would be able to be held in China.
