These types can be useful for otherwise ensuring that your applications are portable, or otherwise using the exact amount of data that you think you need that is not otherwise guaranteed by the regular types (e.g. int could be 2 or 4 bytes). I'll also show you that it's probably a good idea to use static_assert with these types, and you can otherwise check/validate the range of these types as needed.
