My grandmother was full blood Alabama/Coushatta and born on the reservation near Livingston, Texas. She died giving birth to triplets October 29th and 30th, 1923. My mother's sisters were still born on the 30th, my mom was born on the 29th. My grandfather's sister, Jennie Collins Hayes, a Pentecostal minister in Livingston, told me my grandmother was full blood, and my mother told me (The only time we talked about). She became very upset about her sisters and mother dying and being the only one surviving. I never brought it up again. In the lyrics I refer to "American Indians" as evidence of another way their land was stolen from them. Columbus has a holiday for discovering America when from all my research, he was shown to be lost in his journey to find a western route from Europe. The Americas were inhabited by indigenous tribes, whose land was stolen from them. They were forced to move from their native homelands onto reservations, while Caucasians moved onto their lands which were more fertile than the reservations they were forced to move to. The Trail Of Tears was genocide. Thousands died making this forced migration. The history of the exposing the native tribes to European illnesses by giving infected blankets was criminal (Please read about these).
