Beautiful winter destinations where your vacation will be dreamy: The best places for winter holidays in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. Where will you spend your winter vacation? Write your favorite destination in the comments and feel free to share why it's so good there! You can find more beautiful winter destinations here: https://homeoftravel.de/beste-reisezi... 10th place: Saxon Switzerland in Germany Saxon Switzerland is already incredibly impressive without snow. However, when it gets cold in winter and the rugged rock needles are covered in a delicate layer of snow, the landscape shines in a whole new light. We think the Three Stones Route is especially worthwhile in winter. The 12 km winter hike leads over three table mountains and offers sensational views of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. 9th Place: Hemmersuppenalm near Reit im Winkl A true winter idyll awaits you around Reit im Winkl in the Chiemgau region. Here, you can enjoy cross-country skiing on around 200 kilometers of trails. The trails at the Hemmersuppenalm, at almost 1,200 meters above sea level, are particularly beautiful. Cars don't drive up here. Only a shuttle runs to the Hindenburghütte. The return to the valley is via a toboggan run. 8th Place: Kühtai near Innsbruck Kühtai lies at an altitude of 2,020 meters, making it Austria's highest ski resort. It's one of those places where you're highly likely to experience a white Christmas. Ski slopes run all around. The accommodations are practically in the middle of the ski area, so you can strap on your skis right outside your front door. And have you heard of the Skypool there? The infinity pool offers a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. 7th Place: Villgratental in East Tyrol The quaint Villgratental in East Tyrol seems almost a bit sleepy. But that's precisely what makes it so charming. Here, you can leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind and set off on beautiful ski tours through the unspoiled, secluded winter landscape. Our tour tip is the ascent to the Roter Kinkele. Around 1,000 meters of elevation gain are overcome on the tour. At the summit, you'll be rewarded with a stunning 360-degree panorama. 6th Place: Saas-Fee in Switzerland Another top winter destination is Saas-Fee in Switzerland. The town is nestled among 18 four-thousand-meter peaks. Huge masses of ice sometimes peek out of the snow on both sides of the slopes. Skiing here was an absolute dream for us. And we've planned another trip to Saas-Fee this winter. 5th Place: Weissensee in Carinthia In winter, Weissensee in Carinthia also presents itself at its most beautiful. Lace up your skates, as the frozen lake is the largest natural ice rink in the Alps. The time when the lake freezes over is especially beautiful. Then you can marvel at the mirror-ice phenomenon. The ice is crystal clear and it almost looks as if a pane of glass has been placed over the water. You can sometimes even watch the fish swimming underneath. 4th Place: St. Moritz in the Engadin St. Moritz is considered a ski resort for the rich and famous. You might even bump into the odd celebrity here. But don't worry, the Engadin is mostly used by ordinary skiers. In mid-winter, up to 350 kilometers of groomed slopes offer magnificent panoramas of the surrounding mountain lakes and the highest peaks of the Eastern Alps. 3rd Place: Seiser Alm in South Tyrol South Tyrol is home to Europe's largest high alpine pasture. The Seiser Alm is a paradise for snowshoe hikers. There are around 50 km of marked snowshoe trails on the high plateau in South Tyrol. You'll be up close to the rugged Dolomite cliffs, and the vast, untouched expanses are almost meditative. 2nd Place: Heiligenblut am Großglockner Heiligenblut am Großglockner is a true insider tip among Austrian ski resorts. This Carinthian ski area isn't overcrowded even in peak season. This is partly because skiers are spread out not only on the slopes but also in the surrounding terrain. We were there with ski guide Georg. 1st Place: Eibsee near Garmisch-Partenkirchen Very close to Garmisch-Partenkirchen lies the beautiful Eibsee. Perhaps the most beautiful mountain lake in Germany. After all, the Eibsee is also known as the Bavarian Caribbean. In winter, the area transforms into a glittering snowscape. The winter hike around the lake is approximately 7 km long and takes just under 2 hours. You can also combine your winter excursion to Eibsee with a visit to the Zugspitze. From the parking lot at Eibsee, the cable car takes you up to Germany's highest mountain in just a few minutes.
