In its communication, the block committee has demanded an urgent meeting within two days, alleging that ongoing consultations are merely an “eyewash,” especially after Dr. Bhatikar publicly announced the date of his joining. Ponda Congress leader Rajesh Verenkar stated that while Dr. Bhatikar is his childhood friend, there is no political association between them. “If he joins the Congress, his ideology will have to be examined,” Verenkar said, adding that it would be inappropriate to discuss candidature at this stage as no formal deliberations have taken place. The block committee has reiterated its support for Verenkar, citing his performance in the 2022 Assembly elections and the improved vote share in the 2024 polls as grounds for backing his claim.
