D5185 is a member of the once-numerous Class 25 fleet. Delivered new to Toton shed (18A) on 25 May 1963, the loco was allocated to a range of depots, renumbered twice (to 5185 and then 25035) before withdrawal in March 1987. lt found its way to Vic Berry's scrapyard in September of that year but escaped into preservation at the Northampton Steam Railway in July '1988. ln total, 327 of the type were produced between1 961 and 1 967 and were a development on the class 24. Various subclasses were built, all with detail differences such as restyled bodywork, train heating and different builders. Twenty of the class survive in preservation - their medium size and reliability making them popular performers at preserved railways. Today the loco carries BR Green livery with original numbers, and is based at the Great Central Railway at Loughborough.
