Footage from 5th September 1992 featuring activity on Lough Atalia viaduct in Galway City stating with a Westrail steam service arriving from Athenry before 075 departure with the regular afternoon passenger to Dublin, Heuston. This train is unique as it includes the ‘TPO’ - Travelling Post Office within its formation. The later scenes include rebuilt exGSWR No.90 shoving back from the station to run round its train on the viaduct before forming the afternoon Westrail steam service to Athenry. Westrail steam services from Galway were launched by then Minister for Transport and Tourism Máire Geoghegan-Quinn at Galway Ceannt station on 15th August 1992. The service coincided with the reintroduction to service of exGSWR no.90 following the commissioning by Westrail of a new boiler and firebox - constructed by the Severn Valley Railway, Shropshire England. The strong winds blowing from Galway Bay made it difficult for the sounds of the captured on this afternoon in the City of the Tribes.
