Travel to South Africa:Township tour Cape Town

Come with me as I visit the areas right outside of Cape Town that are home to the majority of black people in and around the city. During the time of Apartheid, the whites took all of the most prized areas forcing the blacks out into the countryside. Because blacks were not paid living wages, they could only build small shacks for their homes. The men that were given jobs by larger companies were instead forced to live in these all male hostels built by the companies. The hostels were ver small and offered the bare minimum for living essentials. Also women were not allowed to stay at these hostels so the men had to leave their wives and children behind. Later on the hostels were converted into multi family apartments. The man speaking during the video is a resident of Langa.
