Chapter 1: Creating a Dimension from a Load Table (00:55 - 1:42) Chapter 2: Building a Type Two Dimension (1:43 - 3:11) Chapter 3: Configuring Business Key and Tracked Fields (3:12 - 3:49) Chapter 4: Executing and Reviewing the Code (3:50 - 5:09) Chapter 5: Comparing Versions and Making Quick Changes (5:10 - 5:55) In this video we demonstrate how to easily create and modify a type 2 slowly changing dimension from a load table using WhereScape RED, specifically with a Snowflake data warehouse. The presenter walks through setting up a connection to Snowflake and selecting a load table (in this case, a customer table) to generate a dimension. WhereScape RED automates key tasks such as naming conventions, target locations, and offers built-in wizards to guide users through building type 1, 2, 3, or 6 dimensions. For the most common and complex case, a type 2 dimension, WhereScape RED simplifies the process by walking the user through adding business keys, selecting tracked fields, and generating update scripts. Throughout the process, business metadata and descriptions are captured, enhancing both technical and business documentation. One of the key advantages shown is the ability to modify the tracked fields easily—adding or changing fields such as phone numbers—without needing to understand the underlying code. WhereScape RED automatically regenerates the code, including inline comments, and provides a version comparison tool that clearly highlights changes in the documentation and code.
