A surveillance camera buried in a cube; ash as an organic material of archiving, functioning as a filter that conceals the body of technology. The camera’s lens is precisely pressed against the glass so that it monitors its own reflection in the television. Surveillance thus becomes self-referential, producing a loop of vision without a subject who observes, but also without an object that is being observed. What we see is a residue- that is, noise or digital abstraction. Behind the television there is another surveillance camera, stolen from the Student Cultural Center. It is broken, and its function is not operational but symbolic: it does not produce video surveillance, but rather its threat and its disciplinary shadow.
