Frederic March - (The Three Stooges March)

This piece of march music is called “Frederic March" (same name as the actor!). Composed circa 1939 by Howard Jackson and Raphael Penso, who both worked for Columbia Pictures. The name for the piece was obviously an inside joke since the actor Frederic March worked at Columbia Pictures at the time. ”Frederic March" is also heard in the Three Stooges' shorts: "Dutiful but Dumb" (3/21/41), "Three Little Twerps" (7/9/43), "Idle Roomers" (7/16/44), "Gents Without Cents" (9/22/44), "Gents in a Jam" (9/4/52), and "Pardon My Backfire" (8/15/53). Most of this incidental film music was never published, hence no sheet music was ever available as far as I know. I have tried to reproduce this piece as close as possible by ear, referencing bits and pieces from the shorts mentioned above. This march piece may have been also used in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” with Jimmy Stewart in 1939. Cover performance by Carl Piermarini - 2025
