@J.JTimes Hello everyone. U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will impose an additional 25% tariff on all countries that import Venezuelan oil. This is expected to further strengthen sanctions against Venezuela. On the 24th (local time), President Trump posted on his social media, Truth Social, saying, "Any country importing oil or gas from Venezuela will have to pay a 25% tariff on all trade with the United States," and specified the start date of the tariff imposition as April 2. President Trump called this a "secondary tariff" and claimed that the Venezuelan government intentionally sent a large number of criminals to the United States under false pretenses. He also defined the Venezuelan government of Nicolas Maduro as a "country that is very hostile to the United States and the freedoms it supports," and said, "We are in the process of doing significant work to send them back, including members of the 'Tren de Aragua' gang." In response, the Venezuelan government strongly objected and suggested filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO). In a statement, the Venezuelan government referred to the US government as a "fascist right wing" and claimed that the US has harbored "fantasies" of conquering the country for many years. China, the largest importer of Venezuelan oil, also protested the U.S. move. Guo Jiaqun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said, “The U.S. has long abused illegal unilateral sanctions and so-called ‘extended jurisdiction’ to violently interfere in the internal affairs of other countries,” adding, “We urge the U.S. to stop interfering in Venezuela’s internal affairs and abolish illegal unilateral sanctions.” Meanwhile, the U.S. move is expected to have an impact on international oil prices. Experts analyzed that global demand for Russian oil could increase as access to Venezuelan oil is restricted. Attention is being paid to how the additional sanctions imposed by the United States on Venezuela will affect the international situation and the economy. We will have to closely watch the responses of each country and future developments.
