First real shot in the TN GOP governor's race: Nashville in Focus

The state legislature reconvenes on Tuesday morning. Lawmakers return to the capitol facing state tax collections that are struggling to keep up with inflation. That will likely lead to a tight budget year with lawmakers focused on maintaining the status quo. That's the backdrop for what may be the first real shot fired in the Tennessee governor's race coming up this Fall. The real race will be for the Republican nomination between 6-th District Congressman John Rose and U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn. She's considered the favorite but Rose may have a Trump card. In a social media post, Rose reminds voters he is the only candidate for governor who objected to the results of the 2020 presidential election. The message associated with his post says "Five years later, I'm still proud of my vote. Don't trust words. Trusts action." The question is will that message resonate with voters? Republican strategist Rick Williams believes it might. "Between the two candidates for governor, one person stood with President Trump, one person folded like a cheap Walmart tent. Okay, no reflection on Walmart.
