Among the frontrunners is Ashish Butail from Kangra district. Kangra, being the largest district in terms of assembly seats, holds strategic importance. With Sudhir Sharma now in the BJP and aggressively targeting the state government, Congress is under pressure to project a strong Kangra-based leadership voice within the cabinet. Another prominent name is Sunder Singh Thakur, former CPS and current MLA from Kullu.
