You might not have ever heard of these big African birds, but we promise, you won't be disappointed to learn about them! They're one of our favorite animals at the Zoo! Southern ground hornbills are a vulnerable species of mostly terrestrial birds. About the size of an American turkey, southern ground hornbills are highly intelligent and have a unique social structure. We've been successful breeding them over the years, and in this video, you'll get to see one of our hand-reared birds as well as go behind the scenes with Zoo Keeper Erin to "candle" the eggs we have incubating.
