✨ Step back in time with us! ✨ Today, I joined the Friends of Warrington Transporter Bridge for a free guided tour as part of the Heritage Open Days. Even though the rain poured down 🌧️, the fascinating history of this hidden engineering gem in Warrington shone through. 🌉 The Warrington Transporter Bridge Built in 1915, the Warrington Transporter Bridge is one of only a handful of surviving transporter bridges worldwide. Instead of a traditional crossing, it uses a suspended gondola (or "car") to ferry goods and people across the River Mersey. This design was particularly useful for the industries in Warrington, where ships needed clear passage along the river. It’s an impressive piece of industrial heritage, standing as a reminder of Warrington’s engineering past during the early 20th century. The bridge is now a Grade II listed structure*, meaning it’s recognised for its national importance. Sadly, it no longer operates, but its massive steel framework still dominates the landscape, offering us a glimpse into a time when innovation met necessity. 👥 Friends of Warrington Transporter Bridge (FoWTB) 🌐Link to website - http://www.warringtontransporterbridg... The FoWTB is a dedicated group of volunteers working tirelessly to promote, preserve, and protect this historic structure. They run guided tours, provide talks, and share fascinating stories about the bridge’s place in Warrington’s industrial history. Without their efforts, many people wouldn’t even know this incredible piece of engineering still exists! 🏛️ Heritage Open Days 🌐Link to website - https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/ This tour was part of the Heritage Open Days, England’s largest community-led festival of history and culture. Coordinated by the National Trust, these events give the public free access to thousands of historic sites, buildings, and hidden places that are normally closed or charge admission. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate and discover the rich heritage all around us. 📸 I took some pictures during the tour — the rain didn’t stop us, and it added a moody charm to the day! If you’d like to learn more or even get involved, check out the Friends of Warrington Transporter Bridge on their socials and website. 👍 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe if you enjoyed this little slice of history! 📍Warrington, Cheshire 🎶Letting Go Code SV6ACODOO0QMOZOL #WarringtonTransporterBridge #Warrington #HeritageOpenDays #FoWTB #industrialheritage #hiddengems #engineeringhistory #nationaltrust #WarringtonHistory #RainyDayExploring #villordsutch #cheshire #warrington
