It is named after the world-renowned natural and cultural heritage site, Mount Huangshan, and was formerly known as Huizhou. Located at the southernmost tip of Anhui Province, it is situated upstream of the Xin'an River. It shares borders with Jingdezhen and Shangrao cities in Jiangxi Province to the southwest, and with Quzhou and Hangzhou cities in Zhejiang Province to the southeast. It administers 3 districts and 4 counties, covering a total area of 9,807 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the city had a resident population of 1.323 million. The economy is primarily driven by the tertiary industry. The current driving route stretches from Huizhou District to Tunxi International Airport, passing through the central urban area.
