Fallacy definitions: Whataboutism – Dodging criticism by saying, “But what about them?” False Cause – Assuming one thing caused another just because it happened first. Cherry Picking – Only using evidence that supports your side. Arrogance – Acting like you’re too smart to be wrong. Generalization – Assuming what’s true for one is true for all. Gish Gallop – Throwing out tons of weak points so the other side can’t respond to all. Appeal to Tradition – Saying something’s right because it’s “always been that way.” Interrupts – Cutting others off to dominate the talk. Shifting Burden of Proof – Making the other person prove you’re wrong. No True Scotsman – Redefining a group to ignore counterexamples (“No real Scotsman would…”). Rude – Using insults or tone instead of logic. False Dichotomy – Pretending there are only two choices. Ad Populum – “Everyone believes it, so it must be true.” Strawman – Misrepresenting someone’s argument to attack it easily. Red Herring – Distracting with an unrelated topic. Appeal to Fear – Scaring people instead of reasoning. Moving the Goalpost – Changing the rules after losing. Ad Hominem – Attacking the person, not their argument. Slippery Slope – Claiming one small step will lead to disaster. Equivocation – Using the same word with different meanings to confuse. Appeal to Authority – Saying something’s true just because an “expert” said so. Motte & Bailey – Switching to a safer, weaker claim when challenged. Sunken Cost – Sticking with something just because you’ve already invested in it. Tu Quoque – “You did it too!” (Hypocrisy defense).
