Super Mario 64 was a groundbreaking title for both the N64 and the Mario franchise, displaying the potential of the 64, and taking the Mario franchise in a radical direction. Radical, in that people both people loved and hated it. Regardless, it went down in Nintendo's history as a gem. And years later with the release of the DS, they felt the need to bring it back to showcase their next gen handheld. 64 DS is, rather refreshing. There's so much more content with this remake, and it really takes advantage of the DS's features. Time passing multiplayer, and a touchscreen with useless "joystick" capabilities, serving more intriguingly as a map in this game, good usage in that aspect. Some issues are still prevalent, such as the d-pad locking up for no reason. Having Luigi backflip into a glide, then pushing forward only to have him drift left/right was an issue. And the game does have an awkward tendency to slide too often on the smallest of slopes. But it's a great game nonetheless. It's really a game all Nintendo fans should have at least tried.
