Real Medical Student Reacts to GREY'S ANATOMY | Medical Drama Review | Doctor Disney WHAT?! We passed 1,000 SCRUBscribers??? WOOHOO! Thank you all for the love and support! As a treat, here is my review and medical breakdown of Grey’s Anatomy from ABC. Grab your popcorn and a friend because this one is long, but OH SO WORTH IT HAHA! Stay until the end for my Summary & Score of the episode! There are many surprises sprinkled throughout, plus, BLOOPERS starting at 26:50. This took a TON of editing (2 months!), so if you want another, here’s the challenge! GREY'S ANATOMY was actually very gripping from the start. The relationship between Meredith and Shepherd was magnetic from the get go and hearing Meredith’s opening lines about her Imposter Syndrome (feeling inadequate or like she does not belong in her field) was hilariously relatable! The storytelling was surprisingly intricate because I even hit a point when I thought, “Wow, they are tackling so many issues - hospital 'hazing,' cutthroat colleagues, abusive attendings, feeling inadequate, poor self-care like not eating, giving false hope, losing patients, mental un-wellness, sexism, saving lives, and more - that I thought they were not going to be able to finish." But they did with a BOMB reveal of her infamous Mother suffering from Alzheimer’s (disease causing memory loss), which hit hard. Alzheimers sucks, fam. While there were moments of discontinuity, and some of the medical details were off and the interactions overly drama-fied, the general idea of the ferocious intensity of this field were 100% true. It is no surprise that doctors have the HIGHEST SUICIDE RATE of any profession, but no one talks about it. We are largely good-willed folks, who want to change lives, but the medical culture can sometimes be the most inhumane working environment with stressing factors such as those portrayed in this episode. Even though the culture is absurd enough to capitalize on and create a 14-Season Hit TV drama, it NEEDS to change. Or we will continue to lose good people with good hearts trying to work in a toxic field.
