🚂🚌🛥️🇹🇭➡️🇲🇾 I chose to suffer this. I wanted to see what it was like traveling by land down the Kra Isthmus down through Southern Thailand. Hua Hin historic station with a derailment huge delay. Finally got on hours late. Passed the nearby sketchy Burma border. Overnight then in the far distance passed islands & locales I been before Koh Samui, Krabi, Phi Phi, Phuket Thailand & Lankawi Malaysia. But inland here, this is where tourists don't go. I didn't see one foreigner. Tuktuk, Thai train, by foot over Malaysia border, taxi truck, overnight Malaysian bus, ferry boat, and Helux truck over jungle mountain to final stop on Tioman Island. With everything we own in life in 4, now heavy, bags. 🪖Most notably traveling through the most Southern 3 Provinces of Thailand that in recent years had violent insurgency problems. Heavily armed Thai security forces with M16s, shotguns, bulletproof vests, helmets, and I think gernades got on the train and were at every station the last leg. The Southern part of Thailand and Eastern Malaysia is over 90% Muslim..It was Ramadan. Food was sometimes hard to come by at times with interesting but some smiles by locals along the way. Fireworks were going off. Call to prayer in distance. 🇲🇾Crossing the Malaysia border by foot was surprisingly easy except our overnight Malaysia bus never stopped for food and our bags are way to heavy to transport on and off thing. I been picking up stuff over the years, need to lighten the load. Anyway finally to Mersing 5am. Caught the first pitch of the ⚾ baseball season on my laptop then onto a ferry to the beautiful Tioman Island. About 36 hours, I really lost track, but 2 nights slept on the journey, a bit of sleep, a bit of food. 🫠6 forms of transport including by foot across the 1906 demarcated border when British and Siam signed a treaty, ceding the some territory to British Malaya in the South. All in all it wasn't that bad. Thai sleeper car was comfortable. Security forces kept us safe. Bus was fast as possible. Gorgeous beach to another gorgeous beach. Can't complain and now I can say I did that.
