If you’re a new or aspiring illustrator, you may find yourself wondering what it’s actually like to work with illustration clients. I get questions about this all the time, so I decided to tackle them in a new series of videos called, Working with Clients. In these videos, I’ll walk you though the process of working with commercial illustration clients, from start to finish. Each video will be focused on a different industry — editorial, packaging, etc. This video is all about working with clients in the editorial space which includes newspapers, magazines and online publications and we’ll unpack the following questions: What is the process of working on an editorial assignment? How much does editorial illustration pay? How much should I charge for spot illustrations? How long does it take? How much time do you get? How are revisions handled? There are a lot of things to consider, and it can all seem very mysterious if you’ve never worked with an editorial client before. After 5 years in the industry and working with clients like Real Simple, Conde Nast and the Wall Street Journal, I can tell you that each client if different, but there are definitely some important similarities. We’ll cover those in this video as I walk you though the process of working with an editorial client, from start to finish.
