Histiocytic sarcoma arises as a result of the excessive and abnormal proliferation of a population of histiocytes, a type of immune cell. The underlying cause for this disease is unknown; however, hereditary factors are suspected based on the aforementioned breed predispositions. Because histiocytic sarcoma is a type of immune cancer, this type of cancer can be found in many locations throughout the body. Therefore, the clinical signs of histiocytic sarcoma depend upon the tissue or organ affected. My heart is shattered. I am saddened to say that my best friend has been diagnosed with cancer. After being inseparable for 8 years - it truly hurts my heart to know that we only have a couple months left together. Right now, I grieve, and celebrate the joy and humor she has brought into my life. I have known she was my spirit animal from the moment I rescued her from the pound. I’ve loved and cherished her every minute of our adventurous lives together. I am only filled with sadness and thankfulness that Katie chose me to be her human.
