A woman working in the paddy fields was shot dead by suspected militants in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Saturday. The incident occurred in the Saiton area when militants, positioned on the hills, opened fire on the farmers working in the Imphal Valley’s low-lying farmlands. The woman died instantly.The attack sparked tension in the village, with locals accusing the central forces deployed in the area of failing to prevent such attacks. Additional security forces have been deployed to the area.This incident follows a similar attack two days earlier in Jiribam district, where a 31-year-old woman was killed in an assault by unidentified attackers, and six houses were set on fire.Ethnic violence between Meiteis of Imphal Valley and Kukis from the adjoining hills has led to over 200 deaths and thousands displaced since May last year. .
