In Newport (South Wales) today, a nice surprise in the appearance in 2x Class 37 sets being seen on the same day, along with the rare appearance of the Rail Adventure Class 43 HST cabs in the South Wales area. To start off, LSL 37667 'Flopsy' and BR-Blue 37610, are seen top and tailing a test train working that was running from Haverfordwest to Derby RTC (Network Rail), returning to their base in Derby after running across the mainline for a couple days of testing tracks. 37667 is on hire to Colas Rail from the Locomotive Services fleet. Next, ROG 37800 is seen taking a scrap movement comprising of redundant South Western Railway Class 455 units, 455742 & 455713, which were being dragged from Wimbledon Park Depot Sdgs to Newport Docks (Simsgroup). It is a real shame to see these colourful third-rail units being sent to the grim reaper's claw, but modern units have long since displaced these icons. Finally, the Rail Adventure HST Cabs, 43465 & 43468, are seen dragging two barrier vehicles behind them as they run from Leicestershire to Pengam Sidings, where they will be collecting a Metro Tram from Pengam in the following morning. The Rail Adventure HSTs made a rare visit into South Wales by doing this working. Filmed by Thomas Coombes on Monday 3rd November, 2025
