Escape the Weed Trap: 15 Tips to Break Free from Marijuana

Are you having a hard time quitting weed for any prolonged period of time, or even for a few hours? Or have you been able to quit for a period of time, but always ended up back smoking as much as you ever had or more? I’ll go over about 15 things that helped me quit and stay quit. Whoever said weed wasn’t addictive must have never been addicted to weed. I smoked marijuana daily for about 15 years, and now I have over 10 years straight of not having any marijuana. I am going to talk about how I did it. I am not saying you should do it this way. This is just how I did it and it was extremely successful for me. If you loved marijuana as much as I did, then there is no easy fix, or you wouldn’t be watching this video and you would have put down the vape and never looked back. But you probably did look back, picked up the vape, and took a couple of drags, telling yourself you’ll try again tomorrow, or at least until you finish all your weed. 15 Tips and Tricks to help quit marijuana. This is not the ultimate list or even the best list. It is merely A list amongst many more lists to come. 1. This is a Problem. I recognized that I have a problem. I knew I had a problem years before I ever quit. I just didn’t think quitting was possible because I tried a few times and I was MISERABLE. 2. Tried Quitting. I tried quitting on my own a few times. 3. Rehab. I checked myself into a county run rehab where they send people trying to avoid jail time. Surprisingly, this was actually successful, but everyone at the rehab was an alcoholic or dealing with even harder substances like meth or crack. Some things I’ve learned from 12 Step program. 4. No casual use. I didn’t want to quit completely, I just wanted to get things under control. Unfortunately, that is impossible. 5. Flush it, break it, throw it away. Get rid of everything. I learned ways to combat the urge. 6. Don’t Isolate. This was hard because isolating was my favorite activity. 7. Call Someone. I called someone when I felt for sure I was going to smoke or even if I was just really depressed and lonely. 8. Wait 10 minutes. No matter how strong the urge is, I told myself I can hold off for 10 minutes. 9. Listen to guided meditations. Trying to quiet the mind right away was not going to be successful, so I listened to a YouTube video of someone telling me to relax. 10. Keep doing what is successful. If I can get one whole day without getting high, logic would dictate that I should just be able to do the same thing I did that day and be sober another day. 11. Recognize Triggers. I didn’t always feel the urge to smoke. When I started to pay attention, I could see that the urge to smoke came when I was anticipating a stressful situation. 12. Feelings don’t last. Good times or bad times. They change. 13. Journal. I wrote about how I was feeling. 14. Determination. In the end, it all came down to how much I wanted it. 15. Trust in the process. These tools are all short term fixes that got me through the first weeks and months. The long term plan required me to completely change how I looked at the world and myself.
