Richard Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier Suite Teatro Mayor de Bogotá Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia Francisco Valero-Terribas, director “Francisco Valero-Terribas has a gift for conducting that only a few privileged individuals possess. A gift nature has given him, allowing him to guide and shape interpretation with immense musicality.” — Lorin Maazel Recognized for his communicative ability and extraordinarily refined musicality, Francisco Valero Terribas has established himself as a leading figure on the international symphonic and operatic scene. His interpretations—grounded in meticulous score study and direct engagement with musicians—have earned the support of masters such as Bernard Haitink, David Zinman, and Lorin Maazel. Scherzo magazine has described him as “one of the most valuable, unquestionable, and effective Spanish conductors of his generation.” International Career His career spans Europe, Asia, and the Americas, with ongoing collaborations in major institutions. He has conducted the KBS Symphony Orchestra and the Bucheon Philharmonic at the Seoul Arts Center, as well as the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic in Turkey, the Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica and the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira at the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra in Israel, and the National Symphony Orchestras of Colombia and Costa Rica. In Spain, he has stood at the helm of the Orquesta Nacional de España, the Orquesta Sinfónica de RTVE, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, and the Málaga Philharmonic. His long-term collaboration as Associate Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg is highlighted by the comprehensive Hector Berlioz project for Warner Music, carried out alongside conductor John Nelson. “An astonishing naturalness with the orchestra, magnetized by the magic of the moment.” — Scherzo Magazine Versatility and Collaborations Highly esteemed for his sensitivity when working with soloists, he has collaborated with artists such as Joyce DiDonato, Erin Morley, Michael Spyres, Alena Baeva, Liviu Prunaru, and Joaquín Achúcarro. His extensive operatic experience, covering both classical and contemporary repertoire, is complemented by a strong commitment to new music, including numerous premieres of works by João Guilherme Ripper, Avner Dorman, Michael Gandolfi, Nuria Núñez, Marisa Rezende, Emily Cooley, and Oliver Knussen. “Subtle and precise indications for a truly outstanding interpretation.” — Beckmesser Leadership and Training The strength of his conducting stems from an intensive career as an instrumentalist, having served as clarinetist with the Orquesta Sinfónica de RTVE and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, experience that provides him with a privileged internal perspective of orchestral functioning. He has been Music Director of the contemporary music academy of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, Assistant Conductor at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, and Resident Conductor of the Castleton Festival by personal invitation of Lorin Maazel. Marin Alsop selected him for the Cabrillo Music Festival in California, and Helmut Rilling invited him to the Oregon Bach Festival. He has worked under the direct guidance of Bernard Haitink, David Zinman, Kurt Masur, Yoel Levi, John Nelson, Jesús López Cobos, Dima Slobodeniouk, Isaac Karabtchevsky, and Johannes Schlaefli. His training includes residencies and advanced programs at institutions such as the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the Lucerne Festival Academy, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Järvi Academy.
