This time of year is when the cold, icy weather draws in. During these weather conditions, the third rail which powers our trains, can become coated with ice, preventing trains from drawing the electricity they need to run. This can lead to delays or even stranded trains. At Merseyrail, the safety and experience of our customers is our top priority. To keep trains running smoothly, we work alongside Network Rail to monitor conditions and deploy specialist equipment to clear ice and maintain services. Additional measures, such as applying anti-icing treatments and providing information ahead of time, help reduce the risk of disruption.
