Komet explains: Treatment of the root surface with sonic tips 1. Those who wish to perform effective periodontal treatments the minimally invasive way, under perfect control and with the minimum of fatigue, will appreciate our special sonic tips for mechanical debridement. The tips come in two ingenious shapes – loop and bud – and constitute a modern alternative to the traditional, established shapes. 2. The loop-shaped tips SF10L, SF10R and SF10T were developed based on an idea by Prof. Dr. Hüsamettin Günay of the Medical University of Hannover. The loops SF10L/R facilitate a thorough, yet gentle removal of concrements, i.e. cleaning and planing of the root surface. Sharp on the inside and safe on the outside, the working part is provided with a flat tip which means that it can be inserted deeply along the root without risk of causing injury to the patient. The tips are capable of removing even very hard or stubborn concrements. The SF10L is angled to the left, whereas the SF10R is curved to the right. The version SF10T is even more flexible than its counterparts. Smaller, longer and even thinner that the other versions, this tip merely measures 0.5 mm at the front. It is capable of probing even very deep gingival pockets with depths of 5.5 mm or more. The SF10T is particularly advantageous in constricted areas, for example in case of crowded teeth, and it is of course predestined for periodontal treatments without flap. All loop-shaped tips are operated with very gentle pressure, ideally 0.5 N to 1.0 N. The sonic hand-piece is set to power level 1. 3. The bud-shaped sonic tip SF11 is provided with 6 blades. Like the SF10, this non-diamond coated tip has also been developed in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Günay. Intended for the treatment of furcations, the SF11 can even slightly enlarge the furcation entrance, if required, to create optimum hygienic conditions during aftercare. The instrument is equally suitable for work on vertical grooves or resorption areas. The instrument should be used intermittently, with low pressure at power level 1. 4.
