What if the most shameful, public failure of your life is the exact place where you intersect with the purpose of God? What if being forced to carry a burden not your own is the moment you meet the Savior? When has life forced a burden on you that you never asked for? An unfair obligation. A family crisis. A season of suffering you didn't choose. What is your "cross" that you've been compelled to carry? Simon of Cyrene was just passing by. He didn't volunteer. He was forced to carry the cross of a condemned man. But in doing so, his story became forever linked to Jesus' story. Your most unwanted burden might be the very thing that leads you to your most divine encounter. At the cross, everyone saw failure. Heaven saw victory. The mockers saw a man who couldn't save himself. Faith sees a Savior who wouldn't save Himself, so He could save everyone else. What do you see when you look at the cross? En route to the cross, Jesus collapses under its weight. The Roman guards conscript a random bystander, Simon of Cyrene, to carry it for Him. In that moment, a man forced into service becomes part of the greatest story ever told. Then, at Golgotha, Jesus is crucified between two criminals as the world casts lots for His clothes and mocks Him to save Himself. In His greatest moment of apparent weakness, He is proclaimed "King of the Jews" for all to see. This is the scandal of the cross: where God's power is perfected in public shame.
