Here is Part 5 of a series of excerpts from the DVD of my book Advanced Coordination for Drum Set and Hand Percussion. These were recorded in 2010. In this short video I show you the motions I use to play the hi hat splashes and fast bass drum patterns used for playing many Brazilian and Afro Cuban grooves. For those of you who have the book these demonstrations should help you with this section of the book. You will be able to see a close up view of my hi hat foot here and that will help you understand the motion used for creating this sound. You can purchase the book and the entire DVD (which is well over 2 hours long) from me at rickdior@gmail.com The drums used in the video are Gretsch Centennial from 1982. Sizes are 18" x14" Bass Drum, 10"x 8", 12"x 8" toms and 14" floor tom and a 14" x 6.5" Snare The cymbals are: 21" 1950's K Zildjian Ride 18" 1950's K Zildjian crash/ ride 13" K/Z Hi Hats 22 " Paiste Traditional Swish Drumheads are Remo Ambassadors on the toms with coated heads on top and clear on the bottom.
