Bosch Serie 4 SGS4HCW40G/01 Dishwasher Unboxing & First Look

The time has come to replace my antique Hotpoint dishwasher with a suitable modern replacement. You may remember I had a Serie 2 dishwasher in the style of the old Classixx models - I got that at the start of 2020 and sold it later that year to use my old Hotpoint as my daily (Much to my girlfriends fustration). Fast foward to a few weeks ago and its time to buy a new dishwasher. The Hotpoint was purchased by my grandparents in 1994, it had a new PCB at a year old, I've kept it going with a few parts and tweeks in the 2 and a half years it was my daily but it wouldnt be practical to keep it limping along, I dont want to be tending to my own dishwasher after a day of mending everyone elses and getting it in the ear about selling the old new Bosch. Hey ho. So this machine is a new old stock, 2021 model without wifi. I was suprised to see it was made in Germany being just a Serie 4, it certainly weighs more than the Serie 2 models I sell and know well. How am I getting on with it? Generally good, read on! The lower basket has more room with the cutlery tray at the top. I have noticed where we have square plates and bowls, these tend to slide around and tip diagonally and dip through the basket if that makes sense. It dries plastics better than the Serie 2 from what I remember. With the cutlery rack in the top I can still lower the middle basket to accomodate tall pint glasses and still get my big dinner plates in the lower basket. The collapsable racks on the bottom basket are useful for fitting the air fryer bucket in but not essential as we managed without it on the Hotpoint. Yet to have something not cleaned properly, I use the hour long cycle and tend to prerinse things with hot water so this probably helps it a bit. I'll try the intensive cycle another time.
