In this video, I spend my first 24 hours in Djibouti, one of the most important and heavily guarded countries in the world. Located in East Africa along the Red Sea, Djibouti sits at a global crossroads between Africa and the Middle East. It is home to more foreign military bases than any other country in Africa, making it one of the most strategic places on the planet. As I walk through the capital city, I meet locals, explore the streets, and experience the blend of Arab, Somali, Afar, and French influences that make Djibouti so unique. I explore both the oldest mosque in Djibouti (Hamoudi Mosque) and the stunning Turkish Mosque, each offering a unique glimpse into the country’s Islamic heritage and cultural landscape. I try classic Djiboutian food with strong Yemeni influence including spiced fish, fresh bread, and other regional favorites. I eat at what many locals consider the best restaurant in the city and learn how food is deeply tied to the country's identity and daily life. Throughout the day I talk about how to get a Djibouti visa, what the hotel situation is like, what areas feel safe, and how it feels to explore a country that hosts military bases from the United States, China, France, and beyond. But things take a turn when I film too close to a sensitive area and almost get arrested. It is a powerful reminder that while Djibouti feels calm and quiet on the surface, it is a place with tight security and high global interest. This video gives you a raw and honest look at my first impressions of Djibouti. If you are curious about lesser-known countries with major global significance, this is for you. #djibouti #djiboutitravel #waleedtravels
