This is the lesson which we are going to teach the kids through this educational video. Kids should understand the different terms used in the world of math, which symmetry is just one of them. Do you know that teaching the kids the mathematical meanings could also happen through playing with Lego? That's what we were trying to deliver to the kids in this lesson through the Lego blocks which we have in our home. Symmetry is when two sides are identical after a flip, side or turn, and that is exactly the same thing we were trying to teach the kids through the Lego board. When something is divided in the middle in exactly the same way that both sides appear as if they are mirroring one another, it is usually referred to as "symmetrical". Since symmetry means splitting the shape into two halves that will then look exactly the same, the Lego game played in this lesson is about putting a red line in the middle of the Lego board and creating a specific shape with specific colors, and then eventually asking the child to create the same pattern in order to create a symmetrical shape. If the child understands what does symmetry mean then he/she will be able to complete the pattern in order to make it symmetrical, but if not, there might be some mistakes in the pattern created and thus the parent will then pay attention to correct these different mistakes. Starting this game could go both ways, it could be simple and it could be hard, it will all depend on the parent and what he/she wants. We believe that starting simple is always better to make sure that the kids know what they are supposed to do before moving forward with making the whole thing much harder for them. Making the game a little bit different happens through mixing and matching the colors and doing a little bit more difficult pattern in the way the lines are shaped. We have gone both ways, we started with an easy pattern that Aaron managed to create then we moved a little bit harder with creating a pattern with more colors and more complicated lines. The harder level is important for the kids because they are not just going to think about the symmetrical pattern, but they will also need to think about the colors and the spacing as well, so it will help with their thinking skills and will increase their ability to concentrate. Setting a challenge for the kids and imposing a problem in front of them which they will need to solve is always important. The kids could at this point come up with solutions which you might have not even thought about and didn't imagine that they would bring up, so this is always a challenging part of the game. Kids should know that in order for them to make sure that the pattern they have created is symmetrical, they should ask themselves "if they split the pattern in half at the red line, would both sides look exactly the same?" that's when they will be able to know whether the pattern they created was actually right or else is wrong. That's one of the Lego math challenges and games that are used to teach the kids something new for them, such as teaching them the meaning of symmetry and how they are supposed to create symmetrical patterns and sequences.
