Our First Hay Crop

We harvested our first crop of hay. This field was to be a pasture field however when we sprayed the alfalfa last year it only killed about 65% of it so we had considerable alfalfa grow back. It is too rich by itself to pasture as it will cause the sheep and goats to bloat (have excessive gas) and they can die. So, even though it is a thin stand, we elected to harvest it. Also, we want the alfalfa cut short so we can no till drill in oats, Italian rye grass, and festulolium. This mixture, along with the current alfalfa, will make a good pasture mix next summer.
